Benefits

Grown Your Own Air....

Indoor plants revive more than your positive outlook with their proven health-giving therapeutic qualities. As living organisms, plants are part of our ecological system which not only reduce urban indoor air pollution overall; with adequate lighting they also reduce CO2 levels which are always significantly higher indoors than outside.

Cleaner air is healthier air, and enables clearer thinking.

Plants work in mysterious ways ... but it’s not rocket science!

Plants in Schools

The latest research on the benefits of plants in schools has just been made available from the University of Technology Sydney.

The trials found that classroom plants consistently led to improved performance in spelling, mathematics and science, i.e., across the curriculum, for possibly a variety of interlinked reasons.  Based on discussions with staff at the three schools, there was unanimous agreement among teachers and students that plants in the classrooms improved their appearance and ‘ambience’ resulting in a much happier learning environment.

Triple Your Bottom Line (TBL)

The triple bottom line (TBL) refers to a how a corporation deals with and reports on its impact and behaviour in respect to people, planet and profit. It reflects a corporation’s greater transparency and accountability in its public reporting, communication and disclosure in regards to how the corporate entity performs in environmental, social and economic dimensions.

Indoor plants are considered by many corporate leaders as having a profound impact on our planet when considering improving the environment and people. It stands to reason that a healthier environment for people (including the workplace) will result in increased profits leading to – economy prosperity.

Greening the Great Indoors for Human Health and Wellbeing

The goal of the project by the University Technology Sydney was to further an understanding of the benefits of potted-plants to reduce indoor air pollution and aid wellbeing of occupants, to contribute to the national environmental goal of ‘greening the city’ for sustainable urban communities. The research comprised:

  • Laboratory trials of volatile organic compound (VOC) removal with three different
    plant species
  • Office study of the minimum numbers of plants required to reduce VOCs and CO2
  • Examination of whether plants could, as suggested by several authors, increase
    airborne mould spore loads
  • Investigation of effects of plants on psychological wellbeing of staff
